What Does Your FHI Score Mean?

The FHI was developed as a quick assessment of a persons health status reality vs. their perception. Much of the time we believe that we are healthier than we really are.

Out of a study commissioned by Aetna Insurance came some interesting findings. Baby boomers (born between mid 1940s- mid 1960′) were twice as likely than Gen X (born mid 1960s – mid 1980s)  and Millennials (born mid 1980’s – 2000) to describe themselves as healthy. Millennials were more likely than other generations to think that having good eating habits and exercising regularly equals good health. They are also far more likely to ingest alcohol and be under significant stress. About 50% of the Millennial and Gen Xers admitted that they snack on unhealthy food when stressed out. And about one third of the younger generations admitted that they care more about looking good than actually being healthy.

What I see clinically is that every generation has significant health issues because we are not willing to be intentional regarding abnormal health symptoms. According to the Center for Disease Control, about 25% of children under the age of five have at least one chronic health condition. This is alarming. The amount of prescribed drugs is at an all-time high, and a large percentage of people have the attitude that if there is something wrong my doctor will tell me.

On a more positive note I see a growing percentage of people taking responsibility for their health, making wise decisions regarding their diet and lifestyle skills. Good Medicine Functional Health exists to help people take control of their health.

How Does Your FHI Score Compare ?

This on-line version is a condensed from Dr. Petro full FHI in his book Intentional Health

0-5

If you were honest with your answers and scored between 0 and 5, I applaud you for taking very good care of your health. Keep up the good work and redo the quiz every 6 months .

6-20

If you scored between 6-20, this indicates there are organ system issues that need to be monitored and possibly treated. Functional testing is highly recommend and appropriate treatment of these dysfunctions in the early stages so that they don’t become worse. Call or click on one of the links below.

21-30

If you scored between 21-30 you have a right to be very concerned. If your score falls in this range there is likely significant cell and/or organ dysfunction. Often it is not too late to reverse the process. Call or click on one of the links below.

30

and over

If your score is over 30 I highly recommended that you either call our office for an immediate appointment or  get yourself to another functional medicine practitioner without delay. Testing and treatment are essential.
Total reversal of the damage is not always possible. However, symptom improvement will often lead to a higher quality of life. It may not be easy but it will be worth it.
